Oldest patient first welcomed to Waterford Health Park

Modelled on highly-regarded international examples, Waterford Health Park offers a wide range of primary healthcare at a single location with ample car parking near the city centre.
With up to 45 healthcare professionals on-site, the 30,000-sq ft facility was developed by Edel Rowe and Waterford GPs Dr Mark Rowe and Dr Ita Creavin. It has accommodation for family doctors, medical consultants, nurses, pharmacy, opticians, dieticians, psychologists, counsellors, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, domiciliary midwifes and complimentary health practitioners.
"The campus features a healing garden in an inner courtyard while the Pugin-designed chapel is to be made available as a community facility. The Pugin tearooms will also be open to the wider public who are welcome to visit the Waterford Health Park as an access point for health information or to view the architectural features of this historic building.
"In creating the new primary healthcare location, we were also very aware of the valuable role art can play in health and well-being. To this end, Waterford Health Park features works from leading Irish artists Tony O'Malley and Jane O'Malley. This takes on board the important link between the healthcare environment and patient experience."
Paying tribute to the project team, Cormac Johnston, General Manager, Waterford Health Park said he - along with all those working at the new facility - is delighted with the end result. "We look forward to welcoming all our patients to see the facilities here. It's particularly pleasing that we're bringing back to life such an iconic Waterford building and I know that the Presentation Sisters who vacated the convent in 2006 are also pleased to see the caring tradition continue here.
"Primary healthcare and how it's delivered is the subject of increasing global attention and we have been able to take on board the best of current thinking in creating the space here. While many patients will continue to visit their doctor only when ill, there is also a growing awareness that prevention is better than cure and there's a huge focus on wellness and positive health-protecting strategies in what we're creating here. We also recognise the value for patients of having a comprehensive range of healthcare professionals at one easily accessible location."
